MS.
CABLE AND WIRELESS
Contestant – National
Carnival Queen Pageant 2007 - 2008
The life
of a man is a diary in which he intends to write one story
and writes another and his humblest hour is when
he compares the volume as it is with what he vowed to make
it.”
J.M. Barrie, novelist and playwright (1860 – 1937)
Indeed, in my own moment of comparison, I stand humbled.
In my youth, I could never imagine that this simple and unassuming
tomboy from La Guerite Village would, by 25 years old, have
had the opportunity to represent the Federation at the Commonwealth
Youth Forum held in Malta in 2005 or that sadly, I would
be without my father who suddenly passed away in that same
year. Neither could I ever imagine that I would be Ms. Cable
and Wireless in the National Queen Pageant and perhaps, the
Queen? Well, I am testament that life is full of surprises
and I readily welcome them all.
I am the second of five children and growing up in a big
family always meant that there was always so much love and
support. That is why my heart breaks when I hear or see instances
where parents abuse and neglect their children by deliberately
putting other things and people in front of them. I believe
that while the broken bones, swollen limbs and bleeding bodies
that come from physical abuse are atrocious, society needs
to pay more attention to the scars that are forming as a
result of emotional abuse. Sticks and stones can break bones,
but the hurt caused by words, actions and inactions of emotional
abuse, I believe are far more reaching than physical abuse.
Quite naturally, with such conviction, I have chosen the
welfare of abused and neglected children as my platform for
this pageant.
I am
honoured to be associated with the region’s premier
telecommunications service provider not only as my pageant
sponsor but because of their commitment to the development
of our society’s children. I am also proud to have
Cable and Wireless as my employer as well since I have worked
with them as an accounts payable clerk for the past two years.
Currently, I am studying to acquire my ACCA professional
accounting qualification since it is my goal to become a
certified accountant.
I am a
determined, energetic, compassionate young woman who is an
avid lover of books and life. I bring to this pageant
maturity, intelligence, beauty and an insatiable desire to
win. I am motivated, confident, ready and able to do justice
to the title of National Carnival Queen 2007 – 2008.
