Karina Phillips

It was just after midnight, in the wee hours of Saturday April 7th when she brought forth her first born child. All at once a baby cried, evoking unspeakable joy and immense pride with her entrance into the world; and they called her Karina. Karina Phillips is a first in many respects; the first child of two sisters born to her parents, the first grandchild to her maternal grandfather; the first granddaughter to her maternal grandmother and the first niece to a host of uncles and aunts.

Even before she was born her mother had predicted that she was destined for great things. The unconditional love and undying support given to her and her sister by their parents set them down a path where the sky is the limit and all things are possible through Christ Jesus. Enveloped by a host of positive examples to fashion herself after, Karina excelled in her schoolwork as she attended the Cayon Daycare, Cayon Primary and Cayon High Schools, all in the beautiful Green Valley.

It was while she attended the Cayon Daycare that she gave her first performance as a singer andin so doing discovered one of the great loves of her life.

Singing remains a passion for Karina and something without which she would cease to be her true self. This was attested to in November 2007 when she captured the title of ‘Kittitian Superstar’, emerging as the winner in a national singing competition.

Having set a goal of obtaining a first degree before age twenty-five, Karina became a student of the University of the West Indies and worked fervently to successfully complete under-graduate studies

in Government and International Relations. Though this journey was not always smooth, it resulted in the culmination of a crowing moment in Karina’s life when before a sea of other graduates and other supporters, one of which was her mother, her name was called and she was handed her certificate, the written proof that she had indeed passed the test.

Karina is now employed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, honouring her desire of giving back to her beloved country and putting her knowledge into practice. She developed an intense appreciation for environmental protection and security in primary school and continues to be a strong advocate for issues surrounding this topic.
